Our Advice Service will become centralised with effect from the end of August 2019. The new service will focus on signposting people with autism and families affected by autism to appropriate support services.

The new, centralised service can be accessed through a dedicated email address or telephone number and people requiring this important service can arrange a consultation, so that information and guidance can be provided quickly and efficiently. Staff will be advising clients on how to access the new service and where appropriate, working hard to help clients find alternative provision, which will include signposting to other local and national autism service providers. We will be working closely with partner organisations over the coming months to ensure that any disruption to our service users is kept to a minimum.

Siún Cranny, CEO of Autism Wessex, said: “This change in service is in line with our strategic plans to modernise the way we work, reduce operating costs and deliver a simpler, smaller department that is more flexible and responsive to the people we serve. As a charity we have to be mindful of how we deliver our services, their cost and the effectiveness of their impact. With the challenging environment all charities operate in we have to adjust and streamline our operations, with reducing levels of available funds.”

Other services affected by the centralisation of the Advice Service include the Skills and Social Groups run in Bournemouth and Dorchester. Members are being given guidance on how to continue meeting, and also details of other services available. The Alert Card service which is available to anyone will be absorbed by the wider charity and still be available. A new training offering for Parents and Carers will be available later in the year with revised offerings.
