Autism Wessex welcomes the government’s new Autism Strategy and funding, which has been informed using the views, opinions and experiences of neurodivergent people, their families and carers.

Autism Wessex has spent over 50 years supporting families as they negotiate numerous obstacles in their fight for timely and correct diagnosis, education, employment and equality.

Serious investment in diagnosis is long overdue, as is improved access to education and support for transition into adulthood.

We are also hugely hopeful that this strategy will raise much needed awareness and understanding of autism in wider society, as this has and continues to be, a huge challenge to the success and wellbeing of neurodivergent people.

We will be following closely the results of the first year of the campaign and the government’s continuing commitment thereafter.

Our wish, as ever, is for true equality for all neurodivergent people.
