Hundreds of runners joined us on 6th January at our annual 10km and fun run at the Somerley Estate in Ringwood, marking the start of the charity’s 50th Birthday year.

Runners braved the January chill to raise £7,594.51 which, when added to a donation of £4,267.44 from Basepoint Business Centre in Bournemouth, brings the total raised by the event to £11,861.95.

Emily Pike, our Corporate Relations and PR Executive said; “Thank you so much to everyone that joined us at Somerley. It was fantastic to see so many local people getting involved and a fitting way to kick start our 50th Birthday celebrations! A huge thank you must also go to our long term partner Basepoint in Bournemouth for its incredibly generous donation and support this year. We are so thrilled to have raised over £11,800! A further thank you also to David Lloyd who led the warm up and served some much needed bacon rolls at the finish line.”

Basepoint Business Centre in Bournemouth has donated £10,000 in event match funding to our Information and Advice service this year. The Information and Advice service provides free specialist advice and support to anyone that needs it on a broad range of topics, including diagnosis.

Karl Fuller of Basepoint Business Centre in Bournemouth said; “We would like to congratulate all of the runners that took part and are delighted to be able to boost the total that they raised. Having worked with Autism Wessex for many years now we know how vital the Information and Advice service that they run is to so many local people and are pleased to be able to help to fund it.”

Emily continued; “Somerley was just the start of what we plan to be a yearlong celebration to mark our 50 year milestone and put autism firmly in the spotlight. If you feel inspired to take up a challenge this year, why not join our Team 50? We are looking for 50 people to take on any challenge they like and pledge to raise £50. Simply visit TEAM50 and keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages (@autismwessex) for details of what we have coming up”.

Basepoint provides a wide range of high quality workspaces to let across the UK and runs a scheme whereby each centre nominates a charity to partner with. The nominated charities undertake a variety of fundraising activities and the money raised from these events is match funded by the ACT Foundation.
