Social opportunities

We support people like Gillan and Lizzie with social opportunities. With our support, Gillan was able to attend Drop-In Group.

“As someone with Asperger's Syndrome, I find going out incredibly stressful. I am always anxious about what might happen, and if I'll be able to cope with it, and how long before I can return to the safety of my home.”

Gillan met Lizzie the first time he ever went to Drop-In. Now a married couple they have been together for over 7 years and have a beautiful 18 month old daughter.

In the five years Robert has received support he has gone from being too anxious to leave his parent's home without a companion, to holding down a part-time job.

Only 32% of people with autism are in paid work. With our specialist support, Robert has been in employment for over 2 years.

We provide local parents with somewhere to turn to for advice - a listening ear at what can so often be an incredibly stressful time;

“Your advice will help me as a parent in understanding and helping my son with Asperger's as well as adopting some strategies to help both him cope in situations where he struggles as well as the impact this can have upon his 3 siblings and other family members. Thank you very much.”
