A dedicated member of our staff, Tilly Wood and walking enthusiast service user Alex Mann, have raised £145 for us and £60 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Tilly took it upon herself to walk from one of our residential homes, Greenways in Highcliffe, to Bournemouth town centre.
Support Worker, Tilly Wood comments;
“We really wanted to do something to help raise vital money for Autism Wessex and help improve the life of those we help support. I know sensory equipment will make a wonderful addition to the beautiful property Alex lives in and I wanted to help make a difference. We have also been raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital who supported Alex in childhood.”
The walk took the pair, who dressed up as Batman and Robin for the event, over four hours. Tilly continues;
“I have been Alex’ key worker at Greenways for a year now. Alex is 21 and has Autism and Epilepsy. As a child Alex was diagnosed with a brain tumour for which he was successfully treated at St Ormond Street Hospital, so some of the funds will be donated to them. Alex is a selective mute, is very shy, speaking only to favourite staff in quiet whispers. Alex has an amazing personality, cheeky sense of humour and an infectious smile! Alex loves long walks in the forest and everything to do with space and nature.”
