Richard Davis, our Finance Director, has completed a gruelling challenge to raise money for us. Richard ran 100 miles in 24 hours at Endure24 near Reading on 9th and 10th June, as part of our 50th Birthday celebrations.
Richard said; “I’ve been running for a number of years but I’ve never attempted anything like this. It was incredibly tough! At around 30 miles I injured my knee but I carried on with it heavily strapped. Coping with the lack of sleep and eating what I could on the move was really challenging but I kept thinking about why I was putting myself through this; to help Autism Wessex to support local children, adults and families affected by autism. I am thrilled to have raised over £1,800 so far.”
We provide essential support, care and education to children, adults and families affected by autism across Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset. Our services include an Information and Advice service, which is entirely reliant on voluntary donations to run.
This year we are celebrating our 50th Birthday and you can celebrate with us by joining TEAM50. We are looking for 50 people to take on a challenge of their choice and pledge to raise £50.
Siún Cranny, our CEO, said; “Congratulations to Richard on completing this amazing challenge. To run almost 4 marathons back to back in 24 hours is an incredible feat! His valuable fundraising efforts will enable us to continue to make a difference to the lives of local children, adults and their families. We’d love to hear from anyone that might feel inspired to join Team 50 and take on a challenge this year, whether it’s a physical one like Richard’s or something completely different. Together, we can be there for everyone affected by autism.”
